Privacy policy

Fruitful Village is operated by Simply Us & U LLC, doing business as Fruitful Village. Simply Us & U LLC is the controller of any personal information collected through this site, and is who “we” refers to throughout this policy. Questions and requests go to support@fruitfulvillage.com.

What we collect, and why

• Email address, only if you give it to us: to receive Sunday Letters, to save a founding-member seat, to send a birth story, to answer a survey, or to write to us through the contact form. Each form says what the address is for and we use it only for that. Nothing joins the newsletter list unless you tick the box that says so.
• What you type into a form: a name if you give one, a message, a story, or a survey answer. It goes to Lissa by email so she can read and reply. Birth stories are published only if you asked us to and only after she has read them.
• Basic analytics, and only if you agree on the notice that appears on your first visit: pages viewed, approximate region, device type and referring site, plus anonymous events such as which support hub or printable was opened, measured with Google Analytics 4. Search words, form text, health details, financial details, children's information and email addresses are never placed in those events. We use the aggregate totals to see which resources help. We do not use it to build advertising profiles, and we do not run ads.
• Server logs kept by our hosting provider for security and reliability, which include your IP address and the pages requested, retained for a short period.
• Nothing sensitive. We do not ask for, store, or want health information about you or your children. Please do not put medical details in a form; talk to your provider instead.

Cookies, consent and affiliate tracking

We ask before measuring you. Analytics stays switched off until you agree on the notice that appears on your first visit, and declining is remembered; the site works exactly the same either way. Your answer is kept in your own browser's local storage rather than in a cookie of ours. You can change it any time with the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer of every page.

If you do agree, Google Analytics sets a small number of first-party cookies (the ones beginning _ga) to tell repeat visits from new ones. They hold a random identifier, not your name or email, and nothing you type into a form is sent to them. We use Google's Consent Mode, so before you answer, Google receives only cookieless, aggregate pings.

Some product links on this site are affiliate links. When you click one, the affiliate network or retailer may set a cookie in your browser that credits this site if you buy something. That cookie is set by them, on their domain, governed by their privacy policy, and typically lasts from 24 hours to 30 days depending on the program. We do not receive your name, address or payment details from any of them; we see only aggregate commission reports. The networks we use are listed in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Who handles your data

• Vercel hosts the site and keeps standard server request logs.
• Google Analytics 4 measures how the site is used, as described above, only with your consent.
• Resend sends our email and stores the addresses of people who subscribe. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link.
• Google Workspace receives contact-form messages, survey answers and birth stories as ordinary email to our support and marketing addresses.
• Affiliate networks and retailers: Amazon Associates, Impact (which runs the Target and Ulta programs), CJ Affiliate (Macy's) and Thrive Market. Their cookies and policies apply from the moment you click out.
• YouTube, where an article embeds a video. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, which sets no cookies until you press play.
• Supabase will store community submissions when community features open. The No Judgment Zone is designed to store only the text of a submission and its moderation status: no name, email, account or IP address.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. Providers above act on our instructions and only to run the site.

How long we keep it

Subscriber addresses stay until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Contact messages, stories and survey answers stay in our mailbox for as long as they are useful for replying and, for stories, for as long as they are published. Analytics data is kept in aggregate for 14 months, Google's default. Server logs are kept briefly by our host.

Your choices and rights

• Unsubscribe from any email using the link in its footer. It works immediately.
• Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@fruitfulvillage.com. We answer within 30 days and never charge for it.
• Change your analytics answer with the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer, or clear this site's data in your browser.
• Block cookies in your browser; the site works fine without them.
• Opt out of Google Analytics everywhere with Google's opt-out browser add-on.

If you are in California

The California Consumer Privacy Act gives California residents the right to know what personal information a business collects and how it is used, to request its deletion, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for using those rights. Everything above describes what we collect. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months, so there is nothing to opt out of; because of that, the site does not carry a “Do Not Sell or Share” link. To use any of these rights, email support@fruitfulvillage.com. We will confirm the request came from you by replying to the email address on file, and you may have someone make the request on your behalf. Fruitful Village is a small family-run site and may fall below the thresholds at which the CCPA applies; we honor these rights regardless.

If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom

We write for readers in the United States, but the site is reachable from anywhere. If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, this is our position under it. The legal bases we rely on are consent for analytics and for any email list you join, performance of a contract when you ask us to send you something or reply to you, and legitimate interests for keeping the site secure and for basic server logs. You may withdraw consent at any time (the footer link for analytics, the unsubscribe link for email). You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection described above, and the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. Our providers are based in the United States; Google and Vercel participate in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and transfers otherwise rely on standard contractual clauses. We do not make automated decisions about you.

Children

This site is written for adults caring for children. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, tell us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS. Form submissions are sent to us by email and are not stored in a database of our own. Unsubscribe links are signed so they cannot be used to remove someone else. No method is perfect, and we will tell you if something goes wrong with your data.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
