Growing in their own time
Baby milestones, without the race
A calm place to notice what is unfolding, find the right official checklist, and know what to do when something is tugging at you.
Milestones help start a conversation. They do not diagnose a child, grade a parent, or turn development into a competition.
Growing togetherChoose their age
Bring the right checklist to the next visit
These links open the CDC’s current milestone checklist for that age. If your child was born more than three weeks early, ask your pediatrician whether to use corrected age.
CDC checklists describe things most children—about 75% or more—can do by an age. They are communication tools, not developmental standards or a substitute for formal screening.
Start with the question
What are you wondering right now?
Is this a milestone—or a deadline?
Start with how to use milestones as a conversation tool rather than a measure of your parenting or your child.
Read milestones without the anxiety →When will sleep settle?
What changes through the first year, what people call a regression, and what normal can actually look like.
Understand first-year sleep →Are they ready for food?
Readiness signs, iron-rich first foods, and the allergen guidance that changed within a generation.
Begin solids calmly →Is this teething?
The signs that fit teething, the symptoms that do not, and what is worth checking with someone qualified.
Sort teeth from illness →When something feels off
Concern is enough reason to ask
Talk with your child’s doctor if they are not meeting one or more milestones, have lost a skill they once had, or you have another concern. You do not need to wait for the next child to do it first.
